The Romantic: The People of Melbourne

We took The Romantic to the heart of Melbourne for a day of street photography, portraits and unexpected conversations. From Flinders Street Station and Federation Square to the laneways of Hosier Lane, we wanted to capture the city through the people who bring it to life.

This is the second part of The Romantic story, a collection of photographs from the day. With our camera and a bunch of roses in hand, we made our way through Melbourne city, stopping to meet people, ask a few questions and make their portrait.

The rose is an icon of Wild Romantic, a symbol of beauty, feeling and the little things worth remembering. We wanted to take that idea into the city and give it to someone who didn't expect it. There was no occasion and no special reason. Just a rose, handed to a stranger as a small act of kindness, turning an ordinary moment into something a little more extraordinary.

There is something uniquely Melbourne about these places. Flinders Street, Federation Square and Hosier Lane are all so familiar, but through a camera they can feel completely different. We wanted to capture not just the landmarks, but the faces, personalities and little moments that make the city what it is.

For us, photography has always been about more than taking a beautiful photograph. It is about remembering where you were, who you were with and how a place felt.

A camera, a few roses, some strangers and the city we love.
